			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you've been in therapy before, you're likely aware that it can be a life-changing endeavor. If you haven't, you may not know what to look for in a therapist or counselor. Either way, you might not know what questions you should ask a potential psychotherapist.</p>
<p>Often when most people consider psychotherapy, they've tried just about everything else to create adjustments to their lives. Yet nothing has helped - certainly not for very long. When emotional suffering becomes anguish, it's not at all unusual for people to ask themselves, "Why not try therapy? I have to to stop the pain."</p>
<p>Sadly, any time we're suffering a lot, we often don't think well, and numerous people turn to counseling and psychotherapy (be it for individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, or family counseling) without questioning the potential counselor.</p>
<p>But the truth is, there is much more to choosing a mental health professional besides lifting up a phone and making an appointment.</p>
<p>Asking the Right Questions</p>
<p>Almost any person can refer to themselves as a counselor, so finding an individual to work with on the basis of this title provides limited information about the person's qualifications, education or background and hardly any protection if you receive inadequate service.</p>
<p>Titles, such as marriage and family therapist, licensed clinical social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist can only be used by persons with the corresponding credentials who've received specific education and training.</p>
<p>Furthermore, licensed mental health practitioners such as these should be members in good standing with their respective licensing bodies. Verifying this information will allow you to know something about the education and training the mental health provider has received and provide you some degree of protection in the event your receive poor or improper treatment.</p>
<p>However, verifying a counselor's license and credentials doesn't provide much information about their specific training, expertise and whether they'll be able to meet your needs.</p>
<p>The only way you can know if a counselor or therapist is qualified to provide you the services you need is to ask them direct questions, such as:</p>
<p>What age ranges do you treat?</p>
<p>What issues do you handle?</p>
<p>What kind of education and training have you had?</p>
<p>How many years have you been providing therapy?</p>
<p>Have you been in therapy?</p>
<p>How do you work with people to help them get well?</p>
<p>Do you belong to any professional organizations?</p>
<p>Do you update your education and training?</p>
<p>You needn't ask all of these - especially in a first session when you need a lot of time to talk yourself. But do ask them. And trust your sense of safety with the therapist in the first session. One of the most important determinants of successful counseling is the connection or "fit" between you and your therapist. If you don't feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you're working with, it will be nearly impossible for you to do the deep honest work necessary to heal and grow.</p>
<p>Beyond ascertaining the credentials, training, and competencies of a therapist and how relaxed and secure you are using them, the therapist will want to ask several questions regarding you and your situation. They too need to ensure there is a good match relating your personality, expectations and aims with who they are and the treatments they provide.</p>
<p>The therapist is likely to ask you what brings you to counseling, as well as about your family and overall background. They will often also inquire about your childhood, schooling, social relationships, intimate partnerships, professional and current circumstances.</p>
<p>Don't forget, even excellent counselors aren't going to be the most helpful for every individual, and no therapist can competently treat anything and everything. Ask the counselor about their credentials and experience directly, regardless of whether you obtain a recommendation from a reliable person.</p>
<p>Similar to determining any professional to work with, doing due diligence and making a thorough assessment about whom to use will increase the chance that therapy will meet your needs and allow you to achieve your objectives. You shouldn't be self-conscious or frightened to ask point-blank questions... After all, your future health, well-being and happiness is at stake!</p>

<p>Anxiety can become chronic or problematic, often, when there's an underlying mental health problem like <a href="http://depression.fitnesshealthsite.com">depression</a>. When anxiety becomes excessive, it lasts longer than normal and starts interfering with everyday life.</p>
<p>Sometimes anxiety can even cause physical symptoms. You may experience such troubles as diarrhea, chest pain, heart palpitations, and even shaking due to anxiety disorder.</p>
<p>You need to be seen by your doctor if you have any of those symptoms, or if you feel you have anxiety. Your doctor can tell you how to treat your condition so that you don't get worse. Here are some of the treatments that are available for anxiety:</p>
<p>Regular exercise. If you exercise daily, this generally will reduce your feelings of anxiety. Don't think you have to do hard workouts either, or be an athlete, for this to work. Even a 20 minute walk or gentle jog in the morning will help, and may eventually eliminate your anxiety.</p>
<p>Take medication as prescribed by your physician. Your physician knows when your anxiety may be helped with some medication. Common prescriptions include antidepressants. You'll feel less anxious and eventually you will start to recover. Always take the medications prescribed by your doctor in the correct dosage. If you experience side effects tell your doctor; do not stop taking the medication unless your doctor recommends you do so.</p>
<p>Deep breathing also can be helpful. If you take slow deep breaths, it helps you to relax and to clear you mind. It also greatly increases the oxygen in your body. It can even help correct chemical imbalances.</p>
<p>If you make it a point to do these things each day, your anxiety will dwindle and eventually disappear. There is no reason why you should continue to suffer the misery of crippling anxiety when it is unnecessary.</p>

<p>Sometimes one is alone because a husband or wife dies. Maybe the kids move out, or go to college. Relationships break up. All of these difficult situations are challenging, but they are fixable. How? It is important to be satisfied with yourself. If you like yourself and are happy alone, then being alone won't be so scary.</p>
<p>This is hard to accept for many people. We need to be able to enjoy our activities for the activity itself. Too often we depend on other people for our enjoyment. We feel like if we can't do something with another person, share the experience, we are disappointed. It is like the telling of a story.</p>
<p>If you have a story to tell, but no one to tell it to, the story is useless and empty. Thinking this way is dangerous, and also isolating because people become desperate to have someone to share things with.</p>
<p>Sharing experiences and stories is positive but should not be required. If you enjoy doing something for yourself, this is the key to independence. This will allow you to fully experience the activity, and feel fully about what you are doing.</p>
<p>When you are able to enjoy things on your own, no one can take this away from you. You will always be able to remember this good time also. This is the key to true independence. You'll find that you are happier and stronger as a result, regardless of your circumstances.</p>
<p>Basically, we need to learn to be comfortable with ourselves. This can be hard, and can seem morbid or depressing. It's not a negative, however. If we can enjoy things ourselves, this doesn't mean we can't also share them.</p>
<p>In fact, you will have a better time sharing experiences with others if you can learn to enjoy experiences on your own first.</p>

<p>Generally, it also is the start of a new family, as you and your spouse have children together. This is often a tough thing to manage. The responsibility of kids, together with the daily grind from work, can make it hard to attend to the emotional health of the relationship.</p>
<p>No one has a love that is the same all the time. Love ebbs and flows. This is normal. It's also affected by everything else going on in your life. If you are smart, you can track the symptoms of love fading so you can see it happening hopefully before it is too late. Here are three signs to watch for:</p>
<p>1. Telling lies to your spouse. White lies are still lies, and lies about harmless small things are still lies. The problem is, the basis of your marriage is trust. If you start lying, this erodes the trust which is the basis for your bond.</p>
<p>White lies can be especially pernicious. Often we start with a white lie that we told for a 'good reason,' to avoid hurting someone. But then it makes it that much easier to lie again in the future. You can start to tell bigger and bigger lies before you even realize it is becoming an issue.</p>
<p>2. Lots of arguments over small things. Every couple will argue sometimes. It isn't the argument that is the problem per se. If you are arguing frequently, though, this is troubling, especially if you are arguing about silly little things that you wouldn't have argued about months back. This shows a reduction in tolerance for your spouse.</p>
<p>When you argue, you can start to feel angry and frustration also. You need to keep them in check, because if you really let fly and say and do hurtful things this will damage your marriage.</p>
<p>3. Physical intimacy is rare. If you and your spouse are very rarely intimate or passionate about one another, this is a warning sign. Love leads to intimacy. If there is no longer any intimacy in the relationship, then you can be fairly sure that love is probably fading away.</p>
<p>These indicators can help you to maintain the health of your marriage. Check in every so often to see whether they are showing up in your life, and if they are take steps to repair your bond quickly.</p>

We can choose how we react to life events, even when we cannot change the events themselves. We can also work to modify our personality and our view of things.</p>
<p>Symptoms of anxiety often may be relieved with medication. Medications prescribed to relieve anxiety often work to affect our brain chemistry. Because of this, scientists believe that brain chemistry has an influence on the anxiety that people experience.</p>
<p>Scientists also have found that anxiety tends to run in families. Does anyone in your immediate family suffer from anxiety? Immediate family includes siblings, parents, grandparents and so on. If the answer is yes, you can expect that you will likely experience anxiety yourself.</p>
<p>Research shows that anxiety is also associated with various personality difficulties, such as poor self-esteem, or a lack of coping skills. Because of this, some researchers suggest that your personality can make you more prone to suffer from anxiety.</p>
<p>It can be hard to tell which is influencing which in some cases, though. When anxiety occurs in childhood, it can influence a person to have low self-esteem, which can contribute then to more anxiety in adulthood.</p>
<p>People who have suffered long periods of poverty or abuse are especially vulnerable to developing problems with anxiety.</p>
