People often asked what is gout? Gout is one of the commonest forms of arthritic complaint which can target several joints of the body, causing noticable enlargement, inflammation and serious pain. It frequently affects the big toe joint, however it can affect any of your joints including:

instep (arch of the foot) finger wrist elbow heel ankle knee

Gout is generally found in males aged between the ages of 30 and 60 as well as in older people of both sexes. Up to date studies show that gout is one of the most common forms of arthritis. Statistics suggest that over 1 in every 200 adults are affected in developed countries. Whilst it is normally a male complaint females can and do suffer from the condition in some cases. This lesser instance of gout in females is in part due to women naturally generating less urate in their bloodstream. Urate is the chief trigger of gout attacks. It must however be pointed out that after the commencement of the menopause it is shown that there is a sharp increase in the numbers of reported cases in women. Whilst middle age is the prevalent demographical group for gout attacks, young adults and children can also get affected albeit this is rare.

A number of people only ever have a single attack of gout in their lifetime, but for many people it does revisit on a fairly frequent basis, increasing in frequency in many cases as the joint becomes weaker and more damaged. An gout attack is often spontaneous but may also be triggered by illness, excessive alcohol or too much exercise. It is also known to be hereditary in some cases.

Gout attacks usually last for between three to 10 days although in some serious outbreaks it can last for for a longer time - over a month. After the attack has subsided the joint should feel normal and pain-free again with no impaired movement, definitely not hot to the touch or inflamed. The indiscriminate nature of gout makes attacks are almost impossible to predict and sadly if they are not treated, it can cause future attacks to be more numerous prolonged in some cases resulting in enduring harm to the joint.

What is Gout caused by? It is the consequence of a build-up of uric acid commonly referred to as urate, in the bloodstream. The urate becomes over saturated creating crystals which jam in the affected joints. Microscopic pictures of urate crystals show them to be sharp and almost needle like. Urate is usually a harmless waste product which is produced by the body when it breaks down certain substances in foods known as purines. Sometimes however the body cannot emit all of the urate that is produced leading to the creation of the crystals.

Gout is widespread and there are a number of effective therapies and medicines that can help relieve pain, reduce inflammation and prevent future attacks. These include both natural and man made remedies. It must be noted that due to the harmful nature of recurring gout, pain relief must be administeredin conjunction with medication that will inhibit the gout recurring as if pain relief is used in isolation without addressing the underlying cause of the acid build up, it can hide pain yet lead to permanent damage to the joint.

Since his early 20's Simon Cliffe has suffered from gout, and has spent a lot of time researching what causes gout and if it can be cured or avoided. He has put together an informative website detailing his work on the topic of What Is Gout and whether some of the published remedies actually work. Be sure to read his new review of the best selling Cure Your Gout Report to find out

Joint pain conditions like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid, osteoarthritis and others are mainly responsible for neck arthritics or neck pain. The joint pain condition arises due to joints wearing down as a result of aging process or injury or both.

The common symptoms of neck arthritis are stiffness and pain in the neck. These symptoms can become severe when standing as compared to the lying down as that produces the effect of the gravity on the spine. Also at times sleeping at night worsens the situation. As neck muscles are in relax state and without the support of these muscles there is more pressure on already compressed nerves. This results in more inflammation and pain.

The patients with neck pain also show signs of weakness, burning, numbness, tingling, electric pains down the arm, forearm and hand. The other sign of neck pain is headache that is experienced on the back side of the head.

Neck arthritis is not reduced on doing nothing. Actually statistics have shown sedentary people suffer more than active ones. Few activities that will reduce neck pain are neck exercises, posture exercises, massage therapy and last resort medicines.

Posture exercises will bring back range of motion. Neck exercises are helpful in reducing stiffness and pain. Exercise bands and exercise ball are needed to work posture exercises. For neck exercises help of therapist is to be taken. Massage therapy enhances the circulation, flexibility and mobility. Also pain is relieved when undergoing relaxation.

The neck pain reduction can be effectively done with alternative techniques such as acupuncture and homeopathy. In a situation when pain becomes intolerable, pain killers can be used to ease the pain. The use of pain killers should be the last option as they may produce side effect.

The joint pain condition discussed is the result of wearing down of cartilage. The other type of condition is painful joints due to pain without physical wear and tear of body joints. Such a situation medically is called Arthralgia. This condition arises with little or no identified causes. Loss of lubrication in joints or injury to the joints may cause painful joints. There is a slight variation in symptoms of Arthralgia as compared to Arthritis.

Commonly different forms of arthritis are the root cause of painful joints. The further causes are accidental injury or fracture, diseases such as flu, fever, chicken pox, hepatitis and infectious rubella.

The reason for joints pain in the body may be any but light exercises under the guidance of physical therapist will create a significant change in the body?s state. This also is applicable to neck arthritis. Control of joint pains is not beyond your reach.

Some people have a hard time in managing their melancholy. Occasionally, their depression and fears can get best of them. As a result, here is a short list of methods that a person can use to help manage their melancholy.

Some individuals have a hard time in managing their depression. Occasionally, their depression and fears can get best of them. As a result, here is a short list of techniques that an individual can use to help manage their melancholy.

We look at different techniques on how to manage depression.

I was told by a counselor that 1 from the methods to manage depression is to challenge your negative considering with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. For example, your afraid that if you do not get that job promotion then you will be stuck at your work forever.

This depresses you, nevertheless your thinking in this situation is unrealistic. The fact of the matter is that there all are kinds of jobs available and just because you don't get this work promotion doesn't mean that you'll never get 1. In addition, people change jobs all the time, and you constantly have that choice of going elsewhere if you're unhappy at your present location. This is really a excellent way to teach people how you can manage depression very easily.

Some individuals get depressed and have a difficult time getting out of bed in the mornings. When this occurs, a person ought to take a deep breathe and try to discover some thing to accomplish to get their mind off from the issue. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, examine the newspaper or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things. Performing something will get your thoughts off from the issue and give you confidence to do other things.

Sometimes, we can get depressed over a job that we will have to perform in the near future. When this happens, visualize your self doing the task inside your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the championship volleyball game in front of the big group of people in the next few days.

Another "how to Manage depression technique" that is very helpful would be to have a little notebook of positive statements that make us feel great. Whenever you come across an affirmation that makes you feel good, write it down in a small notebook that you can carry around with you in your pocket. Whenever you really feel depressed, open up your small notebook and read those statements.

As a Layman and author of an anxiety book, I've done numerous interviews with numerous counselors in how you can Manage fear, anxiety and depression. The techniques that I have just covered are some basic ways to Manage your melancholy, however your greatest bet would be to get some help from a professional.

I remember a conversation which i heard during my childhood among my family members and their friends. They will be discussing about his big toe and they also say that he couldn't even tolerate the weight of a paper on top of it.

Frankly I did not understand even a single part of that disease. But I was very confused and afraid even to think how much this disease will hurt.

Known as a "rich man's disease," gout is a form of arthritis whose symptoms tend to present suddenly and without warning, the first attack typically being the joint below the big toe.

Symptoms include red, tender, swollen and hot joints, ligaments and tendons of the toes, feet, hands, ankles and knees. The attack of gout is generally most painful for several hours up to 24 hours after onset.

Generally, people who are attacked by gout will be in pain for many days and in some cases the pain will for many weeks. After the first attack, it will follow up it with more regular attacks, with more pain and this time on more joints.

Gout is a result of having too much uric acid in the blood. Sharp crystals build up in the joints, ligaments and/or tendons, which result in the above mentioned symptoms. In some cases, too little uric acid can cause the same symptoms.

Men typically report symptoms of gout more often than women and tend to suffer attacks of gout at a younger age. Women tend to report the condition with much greater frequency after menopause.

What puts one at risk for gout? Sometimes (less than 15%) of cases are due to lifestyle. Alcohol consumption can impair the kidney's ability to remove excess uric acid. Additionally, eating organ meat (especially red meat) and seafood can contribute to higher levels of uric acid.

Gout is also formed by Atherosclerosis and diabetes. High blood pressure is also a cause which can bring gout.

Alternatively obesity also contributes to high blood pressure and diabetes. Gout is also a result of obesity and sedentary lifestyle.

Medications are generally prescribed for the first attack and may be necessary to prevent follow-up attacks. Health and lifestyle changes are generally recommended, especially if one is to try to forgo medicine and its accompanying side effects.

Whether to prevent a recurrence of gout and to improve your overall health, it's important that you not let your high blood pressure go untreated. I highly recommend my High Blood Pressure program. It's all natural and results are incredible! If weight loss is your goal in staying gout free, I also recommend my Weight Loss Breeze program!

People suffering from uric gout experience symptoms which include painful joints, tight and stiff joints, and occasionally difficulty in moving their joints. Gout occurs when the body's levels of uric acid build to unhealthy levels. Gout crystals then begin to develop and harden around the joints.

This most commonly effects the joints in the big toe, but can also effect the finger joints, knee joints, elbow joints, and joints in the ankles. If this condition is note treated properly, it can result in loss of mobility of any joints that have been diagnosed as having gout crystals around them.

Managing uric acid levels in the body can be done in several ways. These acid levels increase in the body due to eating too many foods that are rich in purine such as meats, certain seafood, and sweetbreads. Certain high purine, high caffeine drinks can also cause uric gout flare-ups.

These include coffee, high caffeine sodas, and caffeinated teas. Often times if a person is in the early stages of gout, a change in the diet can can give relief from pain and stiffness of the joints in a very short time. Eliminating high purine foods and drinks from your diet and drinking plenty of water can help flush out uric acid from your system and the symptoms of gout will soon come to an end.

If a change in your diet does not relieve all your gout symptoms, you might need to take medication that is specifically designed to break up the gout crystals. Mild medication such as NSAIDs sometimes relieve the symptoms, but stronger medications such as colchicine and probenecid are frequently needed to make sure all the crystals dissolve.

These stronger medications have a higher success rate of relieving the symptoms of gout. However, since taking them is basically the same as poisoning your system, many who take these have terrible side effects such as nausea and vomiting. If you do suffer from these side effects, it is very important to let you physician know immediately. Depending upon the severity of your side effects, your physician may find it necessary to put you on a different medication.

Some patients being treated for gout crystals around their joints learn that they can obtain a great deal of relief through exercise. Moving and bending the affected areas of the body breaks up the gout crystals and they dissolve more easily. Drinking plenty of fluids during exercise is an important aid to flushing the uric acid from your body when you sweat during your workout. If you are able to exercise regularly, this can be a more natural method to keep your uric acid levels lower and reduce the occurrence of gout attacks.

Do some investigating and find out whether there is any family history of gout. If a parent or grandparent had this condition, there is a good possibility you may develop it yourself. Do what you can to actively control your diet, reducing foods that are high in purines. Drinking large quantities of water will help flush uric acid out of your body. Begin a regular exercise routine to increase your flexibility and deter the formation of uric acid crystals.

The quest for joint pain relief is no longer just for the elderly. Joint pain, which seemed to be strictly a problem for the aged, now seems to be affecting people at an ever increasingly young age.

The quest for joint pain relief is no longer just for the elderly. Joint pain, which seemed to be strictly a problem for the aged, now seems to be affecting people at an ever increasingly young age.

Young people, even as young as teenagers, are now being affected by joint pain. Children are encouraged to use computers at a very young age. Most tend to enjoy using computer and video games to the point that they are actually experiencing joint pain. The question is: what can they or any of us do to experience joint pain relief?

The first thing to focus on for joint pain, as with any medical condition, is prevention. Many doctors recommend reducing as much as possible the repetitive strain by taking frequent breaks from whatever physical activity, whether work or play. While taking these breaks, they say it's a good idea to take time to stretch the muscles around the joints as well.

Other types of joint pain relief can be found by using herbal creams that are anti-inflammatory. Massages may help with the muscles that work these joints, but they are generally not enough to decrease the pain in the joints themselves.

There are other alternative therapies such as acupuncture that have been found to help. An acute joint problem, such as from working out using incorrect form, can have a very quick result. Other problems that are more chronic can still experience joint pain relief with this therapy.

Particularly when joint pain comes from degenerative problems, such as osteoarthritis, the condition can't be cured. At the very least, there are topical creams and treatments like acupuncture that may decrease the pain and therefore improve the quality of life for people with these conditions.

There is a lot of arguing back and forth over whether cold or heat is best for joint pain relief. Generally, people with rheumatoid arthritis report feeling their affected joints are hot, therefore, cold may help with this condition. With osteoarthritis, these people report that the condition is worse with cold, therefore, they tend to feel better when heat is applied.

Also worth looking into is dietary changes. It appears that certain foods may affect the symptoms of joint conditions. Therefore, some people say that they have experienced joint pain relief merely through modifying their diet.

While it is sad to see younger and younger people being affected by joint problems, it is also bringing more and more attention to the issue. It is likely that we will be seeing more research into this subject and, therefore, more alternatives to joint pain relief are on the horizon.

arthritis knee pain can be severe, overwhelming, and very difficult to deal with. We use our knees for so much whether it is walking, climbing stairs, or bending down to pick up items from the floor or ground. Learning how to manage and treat yours can be worthwhile and having a number of treatment options can make you feel in control of the situation.

The knee is made up of three bones. It is located where the bottom of the femur and the top of the tibia meet. It is protected in the front by a bone known as the patella, or kneecap. There are a number of tendons and ligaments which hold the bones in the proper alignment and allow the bones to hinge properly. There is also cartilage which is located on the bones and under the kneecap that cushions the joint and prevents damage to the leg bones. A tissue pad called the meniscus also helps cushion the joint.

There are two main types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis is more common in older people. This is because over time, repeated use of the joint can cause cartilage to wear away. The ends of the bones can become jagged and uneven, increasing pain and stiffness. Rheumatoid arthritis causes the meniscus and the cartilage to become inflamed and this leads to pain and stiffness.

One of the best ways to treat arthritic knee pain is through the use of anti-inflammatories. NSAIDs are non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and they include naproxyn, aspirin and ibuprofen. They treat the pain and inflammation, but not the underlying cause. Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers may require DMARDs, disease modifying antirheumatic drugs to treat the disease and keep joint damage from getting worse. These include methotrexate, azathioprine and others. They are serious medications that may have significant side effects and should be used carefully.

There are several surgical options to treat knee pain. They include scoping the knee to repair or remove damaged cartilage, repairing a torn meniscus, or a total knee replacement. Total knee replacements may take quite some time to recover from but artificial knee joints can help you return to a high quality of life.

Other non medical means of treatment can include heat wraps and arthritis creams. These can soothe sore joints and provide some relief. Remember that you should never heat a joint that has been affected by rheumatoid arthritis. You want to calm the heat that is in the joint, not add to it. You also want to make sure you are continuing to use the joint since letting it become immobile will not help and you will end up with more severe problems down the road. Arthritis websites or a rheumatologist can help you establish a safe and effective exercise routine.

It can be hard to live with knee pain but if you treat it properly it can be manageable. If you want to avoid surgery there are a number of treatment options that can make your life better and much more comfortable over time.

arthritis leg pain is a result of metabolic or degenerative arthropathy that occurs in or in the vicinity of ankles, knees, feet and hips joints. Those who suffer from degenerative joint pains experience pain in their joints when actively using them. On the other hand those suffering from psoriatic joint pain, gout and rheumatoid joint pain undergo bout of pain even when the joints are at rest.

Rheumatoid joint pain condition gives rise to arthritis leg pain. Another form of joint pain is termed as osteoarthritis that pertains to leg pain producing pain of same category. Medical terms apart, arthritics is a condition where musculoskeletal system and body joints are affected. The warning signs of arthritis leg pain are

Swelling ? The joints pain in leg give rise to swelling in the vicinity of the joint. Inflammation may or may not be seen but it can be felt. The medications having anti-inflammatory effects under medical supervision can be used to reduce the swelling.

Pain ? The joint condition in leg that is deteriorated will produce pain. The intensity of pain will depend on the damage done to the joints in leg. The relief to this type of pain can be achieved by stretching.

Problems walking? the cartilages in the joints of the leg can be damaged, which makes moving around more difficult. Pain in the knee joints is often the reason why a person may not be in a condition to walk.

Stiffness ? Joint deterioration with swelling and pain add up to cause stiffness in the leg. Stiffness in the leg may be felt in the morning after sleep or when sitting or standing for too long.

When you have painful joint condition two major things happen. First the joint tissue or cartilage is deteriorating that produces change in the complete structure of the joint. This further affects rest of the skeletal system as everything is connected. Second in order to accommodate the pain in the body you may start sleeping or walking in different way.

Arthritis finger in your body is one more painful joint condition. Each hand has 27 bones and subsequently number of finger joints. In addition to that daily work involves fingers in a big way thereby resulting into painful joint condition. The two types of conditions involving painful joints and hence the alarming signs of arthritis finger are almost identical as stated above for the leg.

Since cause and the symptoms of the painful joint conditions in leg and arthritis finger are almost the same, their treatment is in general the same. The treatment includes anti-inflammatory medications, ice and heat treatment, diet adjustments that are joint supporting foods, supplements, weight control and exercise.

Arthritis leg pain and painful finger joint condition can be made less painful with combination of diet and proper therapies wile the sole intention of reducing inflammation. The relief from pain can be achieved on reducing inflammation.

People will normally start to conduct research about gout after they have suffered an attack. They suffer a lot of pain in an attack and are looking for ways to stop this from happening. It is not long before the research tells them that the cause of the pain is their diet.

So the usual cry is "I have gout what can I eat?" or they will mention their favorite foods and ask if they are ok to eat, can I eat eggs if I have gout, or cantaloupes or pork? It is easy to get tied up in your few favorite foods and forget to look at the bigger picture.

As the pain that a gout attack causes get worse, you will no doubt be thinking about how on earth to stop the pain. Aside from the common treatments that are available to relieve pain for the short term, you should be thinking more about how you can take steps to prevent the pain in the future. One of these steps involves your diet.

Unfortunately if you do not start thinking about the long term then the pain that you get from gout will just get worse. Your diet needs to be improved so that you avoid periods in hospital. The pain is caused by a build up of uric acid around the joints, in particular the joint of the big toe. If you do not take steps to control your diet and eat better, then the pain will continue.

You will not be able to cure your gout by simply altering your diet for a while, instead you need to make changes to your diet which are not just for the present. You need to make changes that will have long term positive effects.

Therefore which changes to your lifestyle should you make at the moment to stop another attack of gout? Firstly try and keep a note of all the things you eat and drink over the next two weeks, this will be much easier to do if you carry some kind of note book around in your pocket. By doing this you will be able to see exactly what you are eating rather than guessing. You will be able to see over these two weeks where you need to cut down on certain foods.

You should avoid foods that are high in purines and that is what allows your body to make the uric acid that crystallizes and causes your gout. So the first thing you need to do is cut items that contain this out of your diet.

Keep the notebook that you have used to keep a record of your food intake for another two weeks and see how many foods containing this you have managed to cut out of your diet. Then move onto another type of food which you need to cut out. Over a period of time you should see a reduction in gout attacks, combine this with increasing your intake of water and you should see good benefits. So are there any foods which actually help with gout problems?

Gout is a very painful disease. If you are prone to this problem, here are a few therapies to contemplate putting into place to help you lower the risk of further painful outbreaks.

Vitamin C is an excellent treatment against gout. It helps your kidneys get rid of excessive uric acid. Another way vitamin C helps is by keeping purines from turning into uric acid in the first place.

Uric acid is a regular part of your body's metabolism. However, when your body can't process them efficiently you can have problems. The extra crystals can accumulate in your joints and induce painful swelling and joint damage.

Most of the pain caused by gout is due to swelling. A good way to help reduce this swelling and therefore reduce pain is to add bromelain to your diet. This compound is known for it's ability to lower swelling. This excellent compound can be found in pineapples. You can also buy it as a supplement in most natural food stores.

If you choose to use bromelain as a supplement use only as directed. As with any medical information, you should seek your doctor's counsel prior to using any supplement. Bromelain is a blood thinner, so don't forget to inform your physician especially if you are on Coumadin or aspirin.

Because potassium helps make uric acid into a solution versus crystals, potassium is very helpful in getting rid of gout. The government recommended daily allowance is 3500mg per day. Adding potassium rich foods to your diet will help you achieve the benefits you are looking for.

Proper hydration is very important for gout patients. When you are properly hydrated, uric acid has a harder time crystallizing in the body. This crystallization is what causes most of the pain in your joints, due to the damage and swelling that is caused by your body trying to correct the damage to your joints. So drink plenty of water.

While you do not have to completely discard foods that can cause gout from your diet, at least eat them in moderation. Reducing the amount of high purine foods in your diet will lower the extra amounts of uric acid you produce. Because most of these foods are not healthy to begin with, you will most likely not only get rid of gout pain, you will also probably lose weight, which will have an accumulative factor in helping you reduce the likelihood of future attacks.
