Why You Should Avoid These Foods If You Have Gout

A major factor in having a gout attack is ingesting large amounts of foods that have a high purine content. Your body metabolizes purines into uric acid. When this acid gets out of control it settles in your joints and causes painful gout. Not eating foods with high purine levels can help you avoid an attack.

Bacon may be a popular breakfast food, but it is a food you should avoid if you are prone to gout. Bacon is very high in purines and nitrates. Not to mention the sodium can dehydrate you which increases your risk of having a an acute attack.

If you are a regular hot dog eater then you should consider switching foods, especially if you have a problem with hyperuricemia. Not only are hot dogs not healthy for you as they generally consist of the leftovers, they also contain high levels of purines. This will not help your hyperuricemia.

Venison and other game meats such as pheasant and grouse can be devastating to gout patients. They have very high levels of purines. Venison has higher levels of purines than beef.

Turkey and chicken contain moderate amounts of purines. These two are usually different for each person. There are people who can handle chicken, but not turkey. Then chicken can cause terrible attacks for other people. If you are unsure, test in small amounts.

High purine foods can lead to devastating gout attacks. When we eat high amounts of these foods we can make ourselves susceptible to suffering the painful symptoms that occur during an attack. It is important we skip these types of food or at the least, eat them in moderation.

If you have a problem with gout, one of the foods you should avoid is bacon. Not only does it have high purine levels, it also has a lot of nitrates. The high sodium content also can cause dehydration which is something you should avoid if you suffer from this disease.

It doesn't matter what type of hot dogs you choose to eat, they all can contribute to gout. Turkey, chicken, and beef all have decent amounts of purines. Not to mention that hot dogs usually come from the organs and the organs are where the highest amounts of purines exist.

Alcoholic Beverages Alcohol is perhaps one of the most common causes of gout. Beer tends to cause more problems than wine. Beer contains almost 8 times as much purines as it does alcohol.

Peas/Lentils Legumes are not good for you to eat if you suffer from gout. Peas are slightly higher in purines than chicken, however black eye peas are considerably higher than chicken. Again, every one is different. Some can eat these foods without any trouble and some will suffer greatly for it.
