Some types of depression are severe and dysfunctional. This means you don't have the energy or willpower to go to work or even get out of bed. If you are having severe symptoms, see a doctor immediately, there is good help available.
Dysfunctional depression is not the norm. Common depression symptoms are feeling bad, fatigued, unhappy, perhaps that your life is meaningless. But you can still go to work and handle basic chores. You are probably suffering from some form of "common" depression.
There are several things you can do to cure common depression symptoms, sometimes within 24 to 72 hours. Some of the cures are nutritional, and some are emotional, and some are physical.
To beat depression, one thing you can do is to make a few simple nutritional changes to your diet. The first nutritional change to make is to stop consuming refined white sugar.
White sugar can cause the blues. Eat a doughnut, your blood sugar levels spike high really fast, so your body releases extra insulin to lower your blood sugar levels. The extra insulin clears too much glucose from the blood stream, so you actually end up with low blood sugar.
Here's the thing most people don't understand. Depression symptoms like dark mood swings, low energy, and feelings of emptiness can be caused by low blood sugar. When the brain doesn't have enough glucose (or too much) it causes symptoms.
If you are following the math, we actually create our own depression symptoms by eating refined white sugar. It causes our blood sugar levels to spike up then down throughout the day. The affects the brain, and causes things like ugly mood swings and low energy.
So a simple fix for many common depression symptoms is to simply cut out refined white sugar. Try it for just three days and see how you feel. You can still have sweets, but sweeten things with stevia, which doesn't cause insulin to be released. There's more nutritional help for depression symptoms, but this should be one good place to start.
